The Passion of Joan of Arc

The Passion of Joan of Arc - (1928) Caught this French classic by Dreyer last weekend and it was quite moving. It's a silent film, with a good number of intertitles, and most of the film is built on Falconetti's expressive abilities, which are formidible. This one ranked quite high on the Arts & Faith Top 100 and for good reason. Powerful simpliciity, and close-ups that force the viewer to look into the lines of every face and make a judgement. It was primarily an obligatory viewing for me, (it was my first Dreyer film) but the images and the tension of the moments portrayed have hung with me. I was especialy moved by the use of the sacraments in the film.
