The following video is the product of my wife's awesome party planning abilities and my new FLiP video camera. Enjoy.

The Lord of The Dance has retired.
(*Note: I've added a link to some lovely pics of the injured foot at the bottom of this post -4/6)
Well, it's true. An illustrious career of wowing audiences (in my living room) with my complete lack of shame has come to an end. A career-ending injury in the prime of my glory.
It all started when a friend of my wife's came over and showed us what she'd been learning in her class. It was surreal to see it happening in my living room, but she clearly had skill and grace...

So of course I had to try it...

My wife was my biggest fan, and every time one of her friends came over she insisted that I river dance for them. At first it was fun, but I soon started to feel like Susan Alexander Kane forced to perform while the audiences all laugh at me.
Last night, my wife called on me again to entertain her friends. I've stopped refusing because she's relentless in her pleadings. Well, on the last leap, I landed and heard a peculiar snap and felt the most severe pain I've ever felt. And now...

The E.R. folks said it was a pretty bad sprain. (HERE are some gross photos of the foot) And they also awarded me the honor of having the best E.R. story of the night. One physician's assistant even said "Awesome. Great story." Some might wince at the idea of telling people that they sprained their ankle doing a bad Michael Flatley impersonation, but I can think of no better reason to "Go down" than in service of a laugh.

I am very excited. Of course, I'm excited about my play, which I LOVE! But with the exception of Cyrano (which I've directed) all of these plays are on my list of plays "to get to know." I wanted to see or read all of them, and now I'll get the chance to become intimately acqainted with them. Mee and Ruhl were the two playwrights that Tina Howe mentioned earlier this year as the young playwrights she was most excited about.

Retreat to VA before advancing on TX
Our family took its first vacation since the boys were orn last week. We headed to see family and do some fun stuff in Virginia.
Our first stop was at a way cool hotel called the Great Wolf Lodge.

The hotel is built around an enomous indoor water park.

My boys, who one week before were crying in fear at the thought of going to swim lessons quickly ovecame their hydrophobia.

Just when they thought the fun was over, we brought them to our room. In it was a kids' "Wolf Den" complete with bunk beds and a flat screen TV.

Then we headed to my sister's place. They just installed a pool and we had a lot of fun with them. Water slides are cool, but cousins are cooler.
On the flight home we had a delay. Thank God for portable DVD players.

The trip was a fantastic break from thinking about the move and all that entails. It was a heck of a lot of fun, and great to see family.
