I love this place

Call me sappy, idealistic, or in a honeymoon phase, but I just can't begin to describe how much I'm loving being at Baylor.

It's very difficult work, but extremely rewarding. I'm learning a ton and meeting great people. There's so much talent and erudition, I find it difficult to take it all in. But I'm doing my my darned'est. I haven't been sleeping well, because my eyes and mind have been so wide open all day, it's hard to close them.

I had an audition yesterday for a diagnostic scene I must direct on Sept 14th for the whole department. The scene is a little over ten minutes and there are two roles and I had over sixty people audition! Incredible. And they all had great amounts of talent. Some were better auditioners than others (largely the result of experience and confidence), but they all loved the stage and auditioned because they want to be on it. Wow. It's heaven for a guy who's used to auditioning ten-person shows with 12 people auditioning. (11 of which are female).

It looks like I'll end up reading nearly 50 plays just this semester in my various classes. Add to that textbook readings, additional plays to find scenes to direct and you got a bald guy with his nose in a book for the next 3 years. But I'm loving it.

I'm sure there are people here who are not as great as they appear, and there are things about the institution that will bother me, but for now I'm living blissfully ignorant of those things.
